My sister Laura was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease as a baby, and has been on dialysis for the past two years. A process I have watched and can only describe as soul sucking life-support. A breakthrough like this has been prayed for and anticipated by everyone in her life. We are very excited to help support her in this next part of her journey. After waiting for 23 years, Laura is getting a new kidney! This transplant is an important milestone of her life, and a crucial step to help her live a healthier and more functional life. It is a new and very scary endeavor. She needs her family and friends to surround her now more than ever with unconditional love and support. Laura is the strongest fighter I know. She continues to stand strong in the face of all these new changes.
Our mom, Terry has given of her momma’s heart to Laura once again by offering to donate a kidney. While not a match for Laura, she is a match for someone else. Utilizing the Paired Exchange Program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, the doctors have put together a chain so that three patients will receive kidneys!
Her life-changing event is scheduled for May 31st, 2013. We welcome everyone’s prayers and support leading up to, during, and after. We are hoping for a smooth transition into a new chapter of life full of adventure, freedom, and wholeness.
